Why Does My Dog Urinate When He Gets Excited

Why does my dog urinate when he gets excited? Usually, it’s not a big deal for dogs to pee especially when they are excited. This problem occurs generally in young puppies since they cannot control their bladder which eventually tends to stops during maturity.

This problem could be caused by the following reasons:

*When dogs are playing and become excited. Take you dog outside before and after playtime.

*When you arrive home after a prolonged period take your dog outside right away.  Maybe take him on a long walk more frequently.

*If the dog has a kidney disease or a bladder infection. Therefore, ensure that you visit a vet in case you find an abnormality.

However, it is important to learn few things that can reduce the number of incidents that your dogs pee:

*Tone down your greetings with your dog. You should avoid speaking loud and being so much excited when you first come home. In case you wantsWhy Does My Dog Urinate When He Gets Excited to prevent the incident happening on our home, make sure that the initial greetings take place outside your house. Although this does not fix the problem it will help to at least leave the mess outside.
*Reduce water intake. Should not mean that you refuse to give you dog water. It could only apply when you are expecting guests or when playing to avoid embarrassment.

*Avoid making you’re coming home a big thing. Once you come home, try as much as you can to get outside right away and avoid him until he does his business. The more you make him excited, the more he will lose control of his bladder.

*Train your dog. You should train your dog how to sit and greet people calmly. This will reduce the excitement, therefore, enabling your dog to control his bladder.
ConclusionOnce you realize that your dog has this problem, you should never punish him or even scold him for it will not help to resolve the problem. Actually, you only make the situation worse as he will reinforce submissiveness which is a more serious situation. You must treat him with a lot of respect and understanding as well as be patience.

Thanks for the great article. Our puppy always gets excited and pees when we come home after being gone for a while, and after reading your article I realize it’s probably because we are so excited to see him that we make coming home a way bigger deal than we should. Our poor carpets have gotten hammered with pet urine. The guys over at Acme Chem-Dryare probably tired of cleaning our urine-stained carpets. Luckily they do a great job.
    Thanks again!
