How to Keep Your Pet Entertained during Bad Weather
The weather outside is frightful…
And your pet is not being delightful!
But since there’s no place to go, let it show that the mischief is a go.
Or something to that effect! If the weather outside is dreadful and your pet is unable to go outside to burn off some excess energy, then it’s time to get creative so that you can burn some energy and keep the boredom at bay.
There are obviously multiple ways you can entertain your pet, but let’s talk about some of my favorite ways to entertain your bet that are little to no cost or fuss!
Massage
If you have ever had the pleasure of having a massage, then you know how incredible it feels! It relaxes you, eases the stress, and improves circulation throughout your body. Massages have several benefits for you and guess what? They do for your pet too!
Massaging your pet can help relax them enough to nap or to even just decrease the pent-up energy that they want to burn off. You don’t need to be a pro to massage your pet, but you can YouTube just about anything these days for a quick tutorial. Like this YouTube video from Rocky Mountain School of Animal Acupressure Massage.
Take 15-30 minutes to massage your pet and see the stress leave their bodies as they enjoy the special touch and bonding with you. Don’t be surprised if they fall asleep!
Grooming
This one should be a no-brainer, but so many pet owners forget the simple act of grooming. Brushing your pet’s teeth and the coat is a great way to relax them and help them unwind. If you’re really feeling up to it, you could also bathe your pet and cut its nails.
Interactive Pet Toys
Pets love toys! Don’t skip on the interactive toys that peak their curiosity, burn off some energy, and all them to have some fun.
If you have a dog or a cat, opt for the Kong® toys that are durable and long-lasting for your pet. They have a variety of options and products to suit nearly every breed and needs of your pet.
Frozen Treats
Pets love treats! There’s nothing better for them than homemade goodies made with a pinch of love from their owner. There are some super simple recipes that you can make with minimal ingredients that your pets will absolutely love!

If you’re not feeling up to making anything, freeze some froze fruit that is safe for your pet and let them chew on it for the leisurely pleasure to keep them busy during the bad weather.
Chew Toys
If you have a dog, then you know that chew toys or bones are a dog’s favorite!
Be mindful of the type of bone you give your pet as some can cause more harm than good for your dog, but their safe options. Take a look at the article, Exercise Caution When Giving Your Dog a Bone, from the American Kennel Club where they talk about the different types of bones and which ones are safe for your pet.
Chew toys are fairly safe, but again be mindful of the type of pet you have, their breed, and chewing habits as a soft chew toy given to a dog that is rough on their toys wouldn’t be ideal and could cause your pet harm if they ate the toy.
Always be mindful and cautious when giving any chew toys to your pet to be sure they’re safe!
As you can see, entertaining your pet doesn’t have to be expensive or hard work. It may take a little bit of creativity, but in no time, you can be bonding with your pet and warding off any signs of boredom while you wait out the storm together.
