How To Help Your Pet on The 4th Of July

With 4th of July quickly approaching, we need to take some time and think about our beloved pets.  Some of our dogs and even cats are very scared of the loud fireworks.  My 3 dogs (Thank God) are NOT afraid of the loud fireworks, but I do remember having a dog that was terrified of them.  I used to have to go to the vet’s office and get him a  tranquilizers.

I thought this would be a good topic for my blog today.  Below are some things that you can do to help calm you pet on the 4th of July.

* Create a safe place for your pet to hide out.  You could bring out their crate and cover it with a blanket.  Your pet may want to hide in his safe place, they need a den or cave-like area.

* Drown out the noise. Play some soft music or put on the TV for them.  It may block out noise from the the loud fireworks.

* Use calming aids for your pet or medication from the Vet’s office.  Call your local Veterinarian and ask to get a prescription for calming drug. You may also use herbal remedies that the vet’s office sells or your local Pet Smart.

* Find some other distractions such as playing games and reward with treats.

* Purchase a Thunder Shirt.  I have seen many great results with pets that wear the Thunder Shirt.

*Call your local pet sitter to check in on your pet if you will not be home
