Why Hire a Professional Cat Sitter?

cat sitterCats are graceful and curious creatures with a profound sense of independence. They are creatures of habit and being territorial, they are happiest when a familiar environment surrounds them. So when it comes to going on vacation or if you are away on business, what happens to your beloved kitty?

There will come a time when we have to leave the comfort of our home and normal everyday routine for a business trip, vacation, special occasion or an emergency. During these times, our cats need pet sitters too, they shouldn’t be left alone for long periods of time. A good way to keep your pet safe and taken cared for is to hire a professional cat sitter.

It may be okay to leave your cat in a veterinary clinic for a night or so but it will be less stressful for the both of you if your pet can stay at home and you know that someone is there to take care of it. Though it may be tempting to simply leave your pet with a neighbor or relative, for the low cost  it is still best to hire a professional cat sitter for the job. Below are 5 Reasons Your Cat Needs a Pet Sitter When You Travel.

1. A professional cat sitter has the education and training in pet care for different breeds of pets. They are intellectually equipped with cat care, cat nutrition, and pet CPR. They have hands-on training on pets and are emotionally and physically prepared to keep your pet safe and healthy until you arrive.

2. All professional cat sitters are insured. In case things do not go the way as planned, accidents may happen and things may break during your absence, you will not worry because you are covered by a liability insurance. Professionals working for a company are also bonded and that is something that you should also ask about.

3. A cat sitter must not just care for your pet but must also mind your home while you are gone. They will bring in your mail, water your plants and turn your lights on and off as needed.

4. Sitters from professional agencies are often pre-screened before getting employed. This will assure you that your pets are safe and your property as well. If you want to make sure, ask for a specific sitter and ask about his or her background. The company will be more than happy to provide you with this information. Having this benefit heaves off your worries about the safety of your pet and the integrity of your property.

5. They are also trained to get along with pets easily so even if your pet sees the cat sitter for the first time, the sitter can ease into your cat’s safe zone immediately.

Companies for professional cat sitters often allow payments to be transacted via credit cards, debit cards and checks.  When you have multiple cats in your house, hiring a professional will often cost you less than putting all your cats in a boarding place or in a vet clinic. Your cats will be able to enjoy the conveniences of your home and the care of a person even when you are not around.

That’s a good point you make about how pet sitters get screened before being hired, so you can rest assured that the person caring for your pet is qualified. I’ve heard that many pet sitters are required to have at least 10 years of animal care under their belt before being able to watch these pets for other people. I’ll be sure to remember this great information as we get ready to leave on vacation and we’ll need to decide on a cat sitter for our precious pet.
