Helping Feline Urgent Rescue and Rehab (FURR)

Do you have a soft spot in your heart for cats? If that’s the case then you’ll love today’s blog.  We wanted to highlight Feline Urgent Rescue and Rehab (more commonly known as FURR) this week for the all the amazing things it does for feral and homeless cats in an around our community.

What is Feline Urgent Rescue and Rehab?

Feline Urgent Rescue and Rehab (FURR) is a 501(c)(3) organization run by Terry Schultz. It’s right around the corner in Waxhaw, NC.  FURR is a safe place for cats to call home until they find their “furrever” home. This means that FURR is a no-kill rescue that offers a cage-free environment for all cats that find themselves without a home. Terry grew up on a farm in Wilmington, NC and that is where she developed her love and compassion for all animals.  In fact, she and her husband currently have 14 rescues under their roof, 4 dogs, and 10 cats!  The motto of FURR is “Saving the World One Kitty at a Time” and Terry and her team fully live up to that motto.

Want to adopt a cat?

Adopting a cat from FURR is such a wonderful idea. When you adopt a rescue a “miracle” kitty from FURR, you’re doing much more than bringing a cat into your home. You’re actually saving two cats! Two! Remember, when you adopt a cat, you are essentially making room for the next cat that Terry and her team bring off the streets.  Now, that’s something to feel good about.  If you just so happen to adopt two cats, you’ve actually saved four cats.

What can I expect?

All adopted cats will be trained and ready for their “furrever” home.  That means each cat will be accustomed to using litter boxes, scratching posts and come with a clean bill of health!  You won’t have to worry about bringing home a cat needs to be spayed, neutered or even need vaccinations.  Terry has posted on her website the steps to follow if you’re ready to adopt.  These steps will include a visit to your home by Terry.  She wants to make sure you and your potential new kitty are a “purrfect” match.  You will be required to pay a small adoption fee, to help defray the costs of keeping such a valuable rescue in operation.

Besides adopting a cat, how else can I help FURR?

There are many ways you can step up and help support FURR including volunteering your time, fostering a cat in your home and making a donation.

Volunteer

There are many ways that you can help support FURR.  They are always in need of hands-on help with the cats.  From grooming to feeding, to petting and playing with cats, your help is needed. FURR also needs help “behind the scenes”.  This can mean helping with fundraisers, office work, and other in-house duties.

Foster

Fostering kittens and grown cats is a huge way you can help support FURR.  Giving a cat a home until he finds his “furrever” home is one of the best decisions you can make. You can never go wrong with helping to save a life.  It also allows you to enjoy the perks of cat ownership and help you decide if maybe you want a cat to keep “furrever” without the lifetime commitment right off the bat. Remember, there is only so much room on location at FURR.  The more people that step up to foster, the more room there is at the Kitty Lodge.

Donate

Donations are always needed at FURR.  Your donations help save lives! You can donate items directly from their wish list, which includes the many supplies needed to care for the cats.  Paper towels, laundry detergent, air fresheners, blankets, cat food, and toys are just some of the items off their wish list.  You can also support FURR with a monetary donation of any amount. Donations are tax-deductible! You can donate directly online or mail your tax-deductible donation to F.U.R.R. P.O. Box 1164 Waxhaw, NC 28173.

Share this and spread the word about this amazing organization.  There are so many people that are still unaware of their existence. It’s always fun to spread the word of people doing good in and around our community.  So go on, tell everyone about FURR.
