Exercising with your pet has multiple benefits, and overall your pet can help improve your mental and physical health. In addition to the health benefits, staying active with your dog has other perks as well.

In a related blog post, 7 Activities to do with Your Dog to Stay Active, I discuss ten benefits to being active with your pet.  I bet they’re not what you think either! Here are a few benefits:

  • Relaxing for you.
  • It’ll be fun.
  • You will be calmer, more mindful, and present in your life.

Now, to get the rest of the benefits, you’ll have to read our related blog post!

Alright, let’s discuss what types of exercises you can perform with your pet to live a healthier lifestyle so that you can enjoy many more years with your furry friend.

Five Pet Approved Exercises

Walking

Walking can be fun and leisurely with your pet, or you can pick up the pace a bit and walk briskly to burn a few extra calories. Walking is safe for most pets but be mindful of their age and breed.

Running

Dogs love to run! If you’re a runner, by all means, take your pet with you. You can do short sprints, jog or even long-distance running.

Swimming

Swimming with your pet can be relaxing and a less strenuous activity for both you and your pet if either is injured or elderly. It is also a low impact exercise that is usually relatively safe for everyone involved.

Rollerblading

Rollerblading can be so much fun! However, a word of caution here is not to try rollerblading and then take your pet for a skating adventure without prior experience.

Rollerblading with your pet can be tricky, but it’s not impossible. Just be mindful of your experience and skill level so that you can avoid any accidents that may occur. Rollerblade with caution!

Yoga

Yoga with your dog is a real thing. In fact, it’s called Doga. It seems it’s all the rave these days in larger cities and it’s gaining popularity rather quickly.

As you can see, these five exercises provide you a fun way to stay active and get healthier but to also bond with your pet. It is important to note the age, breed, and health of your pet before trying any of these exercises to keep both you and your pet safe.

Of course, when in doubt, seek a Vet to help dissipate and concerns that you may have about exercising with your pet.
