Nowadays, you can take your dog with you by plane, train or car. Here are 7 ways to make your journey easier.

Invest in a sturdy dog carrier

The first item that any traveling pet owner needs is a carrier. Depending on how you plan to travel, you might opt for a traditional crate or for a pet carrier that you can hold over your shoulder. If you’ll be flying with your pet, be sure to buy a carrier that is airline-approved with identification tags. If you’ll use a crate, look for a high-quality model that will keep your pet safe. purchase your discounted dog carrier here

Prevent car sickness

Some pets are prone to throwing up in cars or on trains. This is sometimes caused by anxiety, though other dogs simply become nauseous in moving vehicles. To avoid the mess, there are a couple solutions that you can try:

Don’t feed your dog right before the journey

If your dog has a full stomach or bladder during the trip, you may have a mess on your hands. Stopping during a road trip is one thing, but finding a place in an airport where your dog can relieve himself can be a hassle.

Avoid feeding your dog for about 6 hours before the trip. Your dog should be hydrated as usual, but let him relieve himself right before you start your trip and don’t offer excess water during the journey.

Make your dog feel calm

Some dogs can travel just about anywhere with no problem, but other dogs understandably feel quite anxious when their routines are disrupted. Make your dog feel more at home by bringing familiar toys and bedding. Maintain the same feeding and walking schedule whenever possible. Consider taking your dog on even longer walks than usual, since exercise is a great way to calm your dog down.

Some people suggest sedatives for fully calming your dog. While there are certainly safe sedatives for dogs, these should be saved for special cases. Instead, try a natural remedy, like lavender or chamomile, to quell your dog’s nerves.

Stick with dog-friendly airlines, train routes, and hotels

Do thorough research beforehand. Make sure that the airline or train of your choice welcomes pets, and double-check any weight or size limits. You will also need to verify your dog’s medical history before traveling.

There is an abundance of dog-friendly hotels in most major cities. Some even have dog parks on the premises. By planning ahead, you’ll be sure that your dog is welcome everywhere he goes. Traveling with your dog? Check out these 7 tips!

Find attractions that welcome dogs

You may be wondering what sorts of travel activities are suitable with a dog in tow. Many traditional activities, like tours, won’t welcome dogs, so you may have to do more exploring on your own or leave Fido at home for a bit.

Still, it’s fun to include your dog as much as possible. Before your trip, research restaurants, bars, hiking trails, parks and other attractions that welcome pets.

Do thorough research before traveling abroad

Traveling domestically and traveling abroad are quite different scenarios when you’re bringing a dog along. Some countries require that all foreign pets be quarantined for a certain amount of time, and most require proof of vaccinations and a clean bill of health. Never assume that you can simply step off the plane with your dog and head to your hotel. Do your research first!

Traveling with your dog may be a lot simpler than you think, but it requires planning ahead. Be prepared by finding the proper gear and researching your destination. During the journey, maintain a sense of calm and normalcy for your dog. By following the 7 tips listed above, you and your dog can travel anywhere that your hearts desire.

I like that you talked about bringing toys your dog is used to, to help keep it calm. I have been looking for a way to help my new dog travel. I can see how it would be nice to bring toys because I need to drive him to the vet often.
